Tallaght’s first team travelled down to Offaly to take on Birr in Division 3 of the Leinster League.  Birr were looking for revenge after losing to Tallaght early in the season and they scored the only try of the first half when their powerful centre Andy Lally went over for a try that was converted by their player-coach and out-half Gordon Rowe.  The rest of the points in the half came from penalties from Rowe and Tallaght out-half Danny Behan.

Birr got another try in the second half when open-side flanker Philly Haslum went over and Rowe converted again.  However Tallaght hit back with a try of their own when winger Trevor Byrne went over and Behan converted.  Behan and Rowe continued to swap penalties but then Birr second row Chris Hogan went over for another try five minutes from the end and that secured a deserved 28-19 win for Birr.
